Hi everyone, so I’m going to be dropping my two cents on this movie, Crazy Rich Asians. This movie is one of those hyped movies that was advertised all over the place, and you just want to see it cos everyone is talking about it and all hyped to see it. I first knew about the movie on twitter, and imagine my excitement when I found out it was adapted from a novel! (because I didn’t initially know…), anyways now I could read the book before the movie was out at the movies, yay!
But you know how it is with novel adaptations, the books are usually waaayyyy juicier than the movie, and ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ was no exception. It’s a great movie overall if you’re into the ‘rich mother-in-law who doesn’t want her son involved with a commoner’ type of romcom.
The story follows Rachel Chu (Wu), an American-born Chinese economics professor, who travels to her boyfriend Nick’s (Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.
